Meet Our Staff

Here are just a few of valued staff...

Jim G.
Jim is a second generation Californian. He was born and raised in Riverside and served in the U.S. Navy from 1968-1970 on the USS Oriskany.

Jim Goodreau has an extensive background in medical technology. Graduating with honors from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, with a BS in Biology in 1973, he completed an internship at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Long Beach in 1974.

Jim moved to Ventura in 1975 with his wife, Mary, taking a position at Community Memorial Hospital. He moved to medical equipment sales in 1978 with Coulter Electronics and returned to medical technology in 1990, working at both St. John's Regional Medical Center and at St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital. Having worked his way up through the trenches, he was Laboratory Manager for three years at St. John's PVH.

Since March, 2001, Jim Goodreau is General Manager for Pet Emergency Clinic. PEC is a full service emergency veterinary hospital with locations in Ventura and Thousand Oaks. As GM, Jim is responsible for all facilities maintenance, personnel, public relations, administration and finance.

In his scarce, but treasured leisure time, Jim enjoys scuba diving and travel in the South Seas.

Karen A.
Karen has been a registered veterinary technician (RVT) since 2000 and working in veterinary medicine since 1996. Karen recently celebrated her 4th year anniversary working at PEC. Congratulations Karen!

Prior to finding her passion in veterinary medicine, Karen worked as a production manager in the clothing manufacturing business in LA & San Francisco after she graduated from Long Beach State with a degree in fashion merchandising.

Karen has a California desert tortoise that she hatched from an egg (she also had the parents), 3 cats and a vizsla. Bailey (the vizsla which is a bird dog) is 11 years old and the love of Karen’s life. He goes everywhere with Karen and he loves to go hiking. There’s a good chance if you see Karen at PEC you’ll see Bailey nearby. Coworkers joke that any relationship in her life has to meet with Bailey’s approval and there’s probably some truth to that, right Karen???

Besides veterinary medicine and her animals, Karen loves cycling. She has cycled across Europe and the USA.

Clara K.
Clara is a 5th year Cal Poly Pomona student majoring in microbiology. Clara has been in the veterinary technology field for the past 7 years. She has experience in general practice, internal medicine and emergency medicine. Clara’s been with PEC for 2 years.

When asked about her interests, Clara quickly begins talking about her “baby”, Mayo Jerome. Mayo Jerome is a 5 yr old domestic shorthair orange tabby neutered male who is SPOILED. Of course all PEC staff member pets are spoiled, so we were going to dismiss that label for Jerome at first. Then Clara reported he has 23 collars with more being added on a regular basis because as Clara says, “he can’t wear the same one day after day. After about 3 days, he needs a change so he can resume strutting around and looking good!” Okay, so maybe Jerome is SPOILED!

One of Clara’s life goals is working in the field of cancer research specifically helping develop a cure for lung cancer.
